teacher -- maître

In the beginning I took the teacher as the teacher,
In the middle I took the scriptures as the teacher,
In the end I took my own mind as the teacher.

Au début, j'ai pris le maître pour maître.

Au milieu, j'ai pris les écritures pour maître.

A la fin, j'ai pris mon propre esprit pour maître.
