Working on Bodhicitta -- Travailler à la Bodhicitta

In order to eradicate our self-cherishing we will also need to generate the wisdom of selflessness. This wisdom is extremely important. Of course, usually we talk about the importance of the wisdom of realizing emptiness. First of all, we need to study, reflect and meditate on selflessness and then arrive at some certainty about it. Then we bring this certainty to mind again and again, so that the wisdom which realizes selflessness arises. Through this, our usual way of thinking, which is based on the view of self, and on the strong notion of ‘self’ and ‘other’, will gradually grow weaker. At the same time as this ego-centric view loses strength, we will appreciate more and more that if we really want to attain enlightenment, we cannot do so without the support of all sentient beings. We will arrive at a genuine and uncontrived realization of the extraordinary importance of all sentient beings.

Dans le but d’éradiquer notre amour de nous-même, il nous faut aussi donner naissance à la sagesse du non-ego. Cette sagesse est très importante. On parle habituellement, bien sûr, de l’importance de la sagesse qui réalise la vacuité. Il faut, en premier lieu, étudier, réfléchir et méditer sur l’absence de soi et arriver à un certain degré de certitude à ce sujet. On présente alors cette certitude à l’esprit de façon répétée afin que s’élève la sagesse qui réalise l’absence de soi. Ce faisant, notre mode habituel de pensée, basé sur la vue du soi et sur la notion puissante d’un « soi » et d’un « autre », va progressivement s’affaiblir. En même temps, à mesure que cette vue égocentrique perd de sa force, nous nous rendons compte de plus en plus que si nous voulons vraiment atteindre l’Éveil, nous ne pouvons le faire sans le support de tous les êtres animés. Nous en arrivons ainsi à la réalisation authentique et naturelle de l’importance extraordinaire qu’il convient d’accorder à tous les êtres.
